Industry research firm Gartner predicts that 60 percent of enterprises will have adopted some form of desktop virtualization by the end of 2012.
The rise and increasing popularity of Cloud based applications and Cloud services such as Google docs and Dropbox are paving the path to virtualization, and many of FoxNet’s customers are now looking very seriously at extending their proven server virtualization strategy to the desktop to take advantage of the cost and efficiency advantages desktop virtualization provides to IT and to the broader enterprise such as:
- Reduced total cost of desktop ownership
- Improved security
- Streamlined desktop management
- Easy deployment of patches and upgrades
- Improved access and support for remote workers
Many of FoxNet’s technology partners have robust solutions within the virtualization space, and we are making sure our team is up to speed on the latest technologies so we can assist our clients in realizing their desktop virtualization goals. FoxNet can assist clients in defining strategy, hardware purchasing, as well as installation and configuration at the server and desktop levels.
FoxNet technology consultant Erik Jenner is an expert in installing and configuring VMware View 5 (VMware VDI), technology that allows desktop administrators to virtualize the operating system, applications, and user data and deliver modern desktops to end-users.
Erik has been putting his expertise to work at our client Lambton College in Sarnia, where he recently installed and configured VMware View Connection Server, and two desktop pools, which will over time support up to 200 desktops, including administration staff workstations (supporting faculty) and library desktops supporting Lambton College’s 12,000 students.
