Foxnet will be hitting the bowling alley for the sixth year in a row for Big Brothers Big Sisters Waterloo Region.  Needless to say, we are big fans of this fundraiser!

It helps that we are a competitive bunch at Foxnet. There is a lot of talk around our office leading up to Bowl For Kids Sake day: Who will get the first strike? Who will get the most gutter balls? Who will raise the most money?

Foxnet is proud to support the great work that Big Brothers Big Sisters is doing in Waterloo Region and in Canada.  Locally, it serves 1200 children/youth in the Region.  Programs range from In-School Mentoring to One to One.

We have raised more than five thousand dollars since we got involved and we are so pleased that our efforts are matched by over 60 other local businesses in the Region that participate in Bowl For Kids Sake.

If you are one of the businesses, we hope you will share this blog. If you aren’t, we challenge you to get involved.

Here are four great reasons:

Key findings from a five-year study, which tracks the experiences of almost 1,000 children and teenagers registered with Big Brother Big Sisters agencies across Canada:

  1. Girls with a Big Sister are two and a half times more likely than girls without a mentor to be confident in their ability to be successful at school
  2. Boys with a Big Brother are three times less likely than boys without a mentor to suffer peer pressure related anxiety, such as worrying about what other children think or say about them
  3. Mentored boys are two times more likely to believe that school is fun and that doing well academically is important
  4. Mentored boys are also two times less likely than non-mentored boys to develop negative conducts like bullying, fighting, lying, cheating, losing their temper or expressing anger.

Happy Bowling, we hope to see you at the lanes!
